Mold Remediation

Restoring a Mold-Affected Property

Restoring a mold-affected property to a “normal” state is the goal of the IICRC S520 Standard, considered the gold standard in mold removal. Here’s the simple, chemical-free process involved, as implemented by Green Home Improvements:

Our Process

Fix the Moisture Source: This crucial first step eliminates the root cause of moisture that allowed mold to flourish in the first place.

Isolate the Work Area: Contain the affected area to prevent further mold spread.

Remove Contaminated Materials: Heavily affected materials like drywall, insulation, and carpet padding are often beyond cleaning and need removal.

Clean Remaining Surfaces

Salvageable surfaces like wood, glass, metal, and concrete are cleaned using HEPA vacuums and thorough scrubbing. In certain situations, Green Home Improvements utilizes Benefect’s botanical cleaning products for additional disinfection. These plant-based products effectively eliminate mold spores while being safe for people and pets, making them ideal for residential settings. HEPA Air Scrubbing: HEPA filters are used to remove airborne mold spores from the affected area.

Final Steps

Microscopic Verification: Final air and surface samples are microscopically analyzed to confirm the absence of abnormal fungal levels, ensuring a successful mold remediation.

Our approach prioritizes addressing the root cause and removing the mold itself, creating a healthy environment without relying on harsh chemicals. Green Home Improvements’ integration of Benefect’s botanical cleaning products provides an additional layer of safety and effectiveness.

Sustainability Note

Killing mold is not enough. The EPA says routine use of biocides such as chlorine bleach is not recommended during mold cleanup, and that dead mold can still cause allergic reactions, so it has to be removed and the moisture problem fixed.
